Polygala californica (California milkwort)



Color: Purple

Description: Milkwort Family. Perennials. Stems spread flat from the base. Oval, dark-green leaves (1/3 of an inch long). Blooms early summer. Clusters of 2 - 4 flowers. Resembles pea family plants. Also has small, dull blossoms that never open at base. 

Location: Pt. Reyes. 

Other: Despite name, not milky. Once said to increase the flow of milk in animals that consumed them.
